There are a number of questions out there about Performance Chips, wondering if they can really make as much of a difference as they claim, and if so, why doesn’t everyone have one? Well, we’re working on the second part of that question every day, but in the meantime, take a look at some of the most frequently asked questions our sales reps and technicians get every day.

How does a Performance Chip work?

Our Performance Chips work by sending a constant signal through your factory data sensor in your engine that your engine control module (ECM) monitors. This signal triggers the factory ECM to optimize the fuel mixture and timing curve to a more efficient balance. This piggy-back system is one of the safest and easiest performance enhancers available, leaving no trace of footprint behind. Time-tested and proven, our performance chips are guaranteed to provide results.

The performance chip is a dyno tuned fuel map tuned for your specific model vehicle changing air/fuel mixtures, timing and spark. If the vehicle is turbo or supercharged, your performance chip will also increase boost pressure.

“Tuning Chips” that charge only a few dollars do not include the necessary programing: Those are NOT Chip Your Car Performance Chips.
Does the Chip Grade have to match the Fuel Grade?

All Performance Chip Grades will work with any fuel grade. While you will experience the greatest return by pairing the Premium Performance Chip with Premium or Higher Octane Fuel, and it is highly recommended to get the most out of your vehicle, it is not required to make the chip work. All chip grades work with all fuel grades.
How do you install the Performance Chip?

Our performance chip simply plugs into the obd2 diagnostic port typically located under the dashboard on the drivers side. Total installation time is typically 60 seconds or less! After driving the initial 150 miles to allow total programming, your vehicle will be running with optimal performance and power.

Watch for imposters! Other performance chip products claim easy installation, but require tools and wire cutting: Those are NOT Chip Your Car Performance Chips.
Will the performance chip work with other modifications?

Yes, our performance chip technology is a “piggy-back system”, which works with any and all modifications.

Will a Performance Chip void the vehicle warranty?

Performance chips are safe for your vehicle’s warranty, protected by law under the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act.

The vehicle manufacturer cannot simply void your entire vehicle’s warranty due to aftermarket accessories. Due to the nature of warranties and contracts, you, as the customer, are responsible for ensuring these items do not void any part of your vehicle’s warranty. While a loss of any vehicle warranty has never happened as a result of the installation of one of our performance chip products, Chipyourcar.com will not be held responsible for loss of warranty. It is recommended to remove the module prior to service, further avoiding potential issues or misunderstandings with the dealer, and to protect your warranty.
Will the lights stay lit on the performance chip?

Yes, however, the lights are only used for our programming purposes. They do not represent how well your chip is performing.
How fast does the performance chip start working?

Your performance chip will start working immediately after installation. Allow up to 150 miles of accumulative drive time to allow for full programming before testing the results. It’s only 150 miles, and patience is a virtue, right?
Are performance chips safe for my vehicle?

Yes, performance chips are safe for your vehicle. In fact, our chips are considered safer than factory chips. Performance Chips improve the existing factory fuel map, thereby improving the efficiency of your vehicle.

How do you restore the vehicle to factory settings?

It is easy to restore your vehicle to factory settings for any reason:

With the MOTOR OFF, simply unplug the performance chip from the OBD-2 port and once you restart your car it will be reset to original settings.
Will your chips affect my vehicle’s emissions?

No, our Performance Chips will not affect or alter your vehicle’s emissions.
